Situation and Description

Torcross is a picturesque village overlooking Start Bay, midway between the historic town of Dartmouth and the bustling market town of Kingsbridge. It is situated in a beautiful section of the South Devon coastline and at one end of a three mile stretch of beach known as Slapton Sands. Enclosed and protected by the beach is a large freshwater lake and bird sanctuary. The village has its own village store, family butcher and pottery together with a popular inn and restaurant.

Torcross is a short distance from the river Dart and Salcombe estuaries both of which offer first class sailing and boating facilities plus miles of sheltered water. Between the two estuaries there is some spectacular cliff scenery interspersed with a variety of remote and unspoilt sandy beaches.

The site of Cove House is hidden from the village itself by an outcrop of rock. It is approached over a shared private driveway and lies beneath the cliff which provides shelter from the prevailing winds. Extending to about 3.5 acres it embraces a private beach down to the mean high water line and a slipway towards the southern end could be reinstated to get access for boats.

There are marvellous views along the coast to Start Point and across the bay towards Dartmouth.

Detailed planning consent (reference 53/0136/09/F) was granted on the 30th of January 2009 to build a large contemporary house, illustrated within this brochure, and this will replace the existing building which has until recently been used as a guest house. The new building will have a gross internal floor area of 6,590 square feet (709sqm), whilst the six bedroom, six bathroom accommodation will have a southerly orientation to take maximum advantage of sun and views.

Directions
From Kingsbridge take the A379 coastal road towards Dartmouth.
